Our StoryBorn From a Passion for Design
Unlike Another started with a dream — and, in many ways, that dream started with my grandmother.
My grandmother was a seamstress by trade and the owner of her own clothing store, Tropical Stitches. Growing up, I watched her create things with her own hands that most people would have to buy from a store. She could make almost anything — curtains and tablecloths, beautiful cotillion and wedding dresses, bridesmaid gowns, and even attire for the men in the wedding party.
To me, she wasn't simply sewing fabric. She was taking someone's idea and turning it into something real.
That stayed with me.
Years later, I dreamed of following that creative and entrepreneurial spirit in my own way by starting a clothing line and eventually opening a clothing store. I already had the perfect name: Unlike Another. I wanted to create things that were distinctive, expressive, and made to stand apart.
But sometimes a dream doesn't disappear — it grows into something you didn't originally imagine.
I've always been a DIYer at heart. I'm the person who sees something and immediately starts thinking, I can make that… but how can I make it my own? That creativity began stretching beyond clothing into invitations, programs, journals, keepsakes, event materials, graphics, websites, and whatever else gave me an opportunity to create.
Eventually, people weren't just admiring what I made. They were trusting me to create for them.
That part of the journey became Unlike Another Graphics.
And then I discovered that I didn't only love creating the pieces that went into an event — I loved bringing the entire vision together. The invitation that gives guests their first glimpse. The program that tells a story. The décor that changes the feeling of a room. The organization behind the scenes that allows everything else to happen. And, of course, all those little details that I can't help but notice.
That's how Unlike Another Events became the next chapter.
The journey from dreaming about a clothing store to building the business I have today hasn't been a straight line. But looking back, I can see the thread connecting all of it.
My grandmother created with her hands. She took fabric, imagination, skill, and someone's vision and transformed them into something beautiful. Although she recently passed, that creative spirit is part of what she left with me. My tools may look different, and my path became different from the one I originally imagined, but the heart behind it feels very familiar.
Today, when someone trusts me with their event, business, or creative project, I never want them to feel like they're receiving something pulled from a template or simply checking another item off my list. You're trusting me with something that matters to you — and that matters to me.
The original dream evolved, but the reason behind it never really changed.
Create with intention. Make it personal. Make it memorable. Make it Unlike Another.
